Dust off your bunny suits, dig out your camo gear, and rig up some carrot-bait traps, cuz it’s almost hunting season for the elusive Brass Bunny! As promised, here are the juicy details for the Brass Bunny Campout, August 12-13 at the Red, White & Blue Campground in Santa Cruz, being brought to you by Brass Tax and Bunnycamp. **Note: Due to new campground management rules, there will be no DJ’s or amplified music
from midnight to 9am, no exceptions.**
We’re doing things a little differently for this campout, because change is good, and the Brass Bunny just won’t stand for the Same Old Shit. Different how, you ask? Read on, and read carefully!
But first, a public service announcement:
NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED AT THE CAMPGROUND! They are vehement about this, so DO NOT bring your pets. Also, Red, White & Blue Campground is a
clothing-optional campground, so don’t be surprised if you see some dangling participles, and please refrain from ogling or taking photos of any nekkid peoples without getting their permission first. For more info, check out www.redwhiteandbluebeach.com/
Moving on…
We’ll kick things off at noon on Saturday, with Bunnycamp DJ’s Craig, Paul Smith and Ross & Todd Barringer, Brass Tax DJ’s Fred Funk, Goldilox, Jess, Loosebeats and sound:boy, and guests DingDong and j9
(Angels of bAss) providing beats for the hunting party. Get your cocktail on at the Brass Bunny Hoppy Hour from around 6pm to 8pm on Saturday evening. Once the sun goes down, we’ll add in Visuals by
Special K.
Now here’s where we change things up. From midnight to 9am, we’ll be cutting off the soundsystem. That’s right - NO THUMPING BEATS FROM MIDNIGHT TO 9AM. So does that mean you’re allowed to sleep? Silly rabbit, sleeping’s for kids! ‘Round about midnight we will have the First Ever Crackhead Talent Show, starring your cracker asses! We’ll have a signup sheet by the decks, and everyone is welcome to
participate. Better start rehearsing now though, because if you upset the Brass Bunny, we might “gong” you right off the stage. We’ll have a boombox if you need musical accompaniment.
We’ll also have a raging fire and domes decked out for lounging, with chill tunes for those who suffer from beat deprivation syndrome. Be sure to bring your favorite teacup for a special White Rabbit Tea Party! Sunday morning we’ll crank the soundsystem back up for a Brass Bunny Booty-shakin’ Brunch.
WHAT TO BRING:
This is a renegade-style campout, in the sense that you should plan to bring everything you need for the weekend. That includes food & beverages (brunch will be provided on Sunday), non-disposable cups,
plates and utensils with which to imbibe said food & beverages, camping gear, warm layers for nighttime, bathing suit if you have the Brass Bunny Balls to jump in the ocean, and anything else you think will make the weekend more fun for yourself and everyone else.
LEAVE NO TRACE:
Just like Burning Man or any camping trip: Pack it in, pack it out! Take every bit of your trash and recycling home with you. Remember to bring non-disposable cups & such to minimize waste!
DIRECTIONS:
RW&B Campground is located at 5021 Coast Road, 6 miles north of Santa Cruz, between mileposts 24.9 and 25.0 on Hwy 1, at Scaroni Rd. Look for the red, white & blue mailbox. The people at the gate will tell you how to find our reserved spot. Or just follow the trail of bunny droppings.
If you are coming from San Francisco, and driving down route 1, there is a possibility that Devils Slide may still be closed for construction so check your route before you leave.
COST:
You will need to pay a usage fee directly to RW&B Campground at the gate. These costs are PER PERSON and go directly to the owners/managers of the land. The Brass Bunny Campout itself is free.
Usage Fee Per Person:
$42 if you hop down Friday evening and stay until Sunday. (Arrive anytime after 6pm, but please note that Friday night is mellow setup/chill time, i.e. no sound system).
$36 if you hop down before 3pm on Saturday and stay til Sunday.
$21 if you hop down after 3pm on Saturday and stay til Sunday.
$15 if you hop down for the day only, 10am to 6pm on Saturday.
The reason for the difference in costs is RW&B charges a separate day
use fee if campers arrive before 3pm.
